Background of the Study
Sokoto North Local Government Area (LGA), situated in Sokoto State in the northwestern region of Nigeria, has been significantly influenced by geopolitical alignments in the distribution of foreign aid. The state's political affiliations, regional alliances, and ethnic composition have all played crucial roles in determining the flow and effectiveness of foreign aid to the area. Foreign aid, both humanitarian and developmental, is often influenced by geopolitical considerations, with donor countries or international organizations favoring regions aligned with their strategic, political, or economic interests (Ahmed & Jibril, 2024). In Sokoto North, these geopolitical dynamics have contributed to the unequal distribution of foreign aid, with some communities receiving more support than others. The study will investigate how these geopolitical alignments shape the distribution of foreign aid in Sokoto North, assessing the impact on local development and community well-being.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the increasing volume of foreign aid directed towards Nigeria, the distribution of aid within Sokoto North LGA has been uneven. Geopolitical factors, including the political and economic ties between Nigeria and donor countries, as well as regional and ethnic considerations, have shaped the flow of aid. This uneven distribution has led to disparities in development and social services in different parts of Sokoto North. The study seeks to analyze how geopolitical alignment influences the allocation of foreign aid and to evaluate the impact on the development of Sokoto North.

1.6 Significance of the Study

The findings will inform both governmental and non-governmental organizations about how foreign aid distribution can be optimized to ensure more equitable development across all regions (Ahmed & Jibril, 2024).
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is confined to Sokoto North LGA and focuses specifically on the effects of geopolitical alignments on foreign aid distribution. Limitations include challenges in obtaining detailed information from donor agencies and the difficulty in quantifying the direct impact of aid on development outcomes.

Geopolitical Alignment: The political and economic positioning of a country or region in relation to international partners and donor agencies (Ahmed & Jibril, 2024).
